Monthly After-Work Mixer

Networking group in Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert and Scottsdale Join us the last Wednesday of every month for a business mixer from
5:30pm - 8pm at Rustler's Rooste by the Pointe at South Mountain.
8383 South 48th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85044. For directions click here.

Develop new relationships with other businesses and get to know members of these businesses on a social level.

This event is FREE for all attendees so feel free to spread the word!

Business Networking Tips:

  1. NAME BADGES - If you wear a name badge, wear it on the right side of your shirt. When you shake hands, it is with the right hand and follows the path of the eye.
  2. NETWORKING ETIQUETTE - The #1 mistake made at mixers is coming with an agenda to sell. These events are opportunities to develop business relationships, not buyers nor clients.

Let the conversation develop naturally. You will probably remember the person you share common interests with rather than one of the many people who tried to sell you their product or service.
  3. GENERATING CONVERSATION - Ask questions about the other person's business. Get answers to the questions you've always had. People always love to talk about their families, their pets, their hobbies, etc. People will remember the persons who took an interest in them.
  4. OVERCOMING SHYNESS - The easiest way to overcome this problem is to arrive early. When there are fewer people at the beginning of an event, you will find the event organizers who have time to talk and get you off on the right foot that night.
  5. BUSINESS CARD ETIQUETTE - A common mistake is shoving your card into someone's hand too quick. Your card will mean more to a person when he or she has asked for it.
  6. REFERRING BUSINESS - The best way to make an impression is to provide an immediate referral for someone else. Attendees should come prepared to give, not receive.
  7. LEAVE HAPPY - If you leave a mixer having made one or two solid relationships for generating referrals in the future, consider the night a success. Getting immediate business or referrals is icing on the cake.
INTRODUCING YOURSELF

Another common mistake is made when responding to the question "Who are you?"

RECOMMENDATION 1

Don't give your name and don't give your company's name.

Respond with something that grabs the person's attention.

A realtor could say: "I'm the person who finds the homes of people's dreams."

An mortgage person could say: "I am the one who ensures the financing of your home goes smoothly."

RECOMMENDATION 2

Keep your response short and to the point. Clever is good but can be over-rated. Keep your response to 7 seconds or less. People will know whether or not you are of interest within that time frame.

If they want more information they will ask. Keep your next response short - this is where your 30-second (AND ONLY 30 SECONDS) elevator speech is put to play.

For your elevator speech, focus on general industry tips - don't talk about yourself.

To gauge their interest, wait for them to ask for your card. They will if a beneficial relationship exists between the two of you.
